Notice the dark dirt directly in front of the student facing the camera (dark almost black, U shaped). This is oxidized dirt, meaning that it was exposed to air which oxidized it, then put back in the ground. Dr. Phelps explained to me that forensic scientists can tell the age of a grave by the amount of oxidation to the soil. This is also something that the thermal imaging picks up also. The military uses thermal imaging to locate land mines.
