Hello and thank you for your Web site! My ancestors in Western New York were friends of the people of the Tuscarora and Tonawanda Reserves. My grandfather (Tam Rose) played Lacrosse in the League decades ago and my mother Nancy lived for awhile on the Reservation. I am always trying to find Indian people who knew them since they are both long gone. Peace from me and my family. Deb H

I was wondering if you might have information concerning a damming project near a reservation in Virginia. My husband heard of a lawsuit concerning this on public radio but didn't know which tribe or any particulars. I am not even certain if there is anything I can do to help since I am from Maryland, but I thought you might have some thoughts or info.

Mr. Wigle - your website came up when I was searching the internet for information about our family tree...
Our family line has been living in Oregon for about 150 years, but originated in Illinois. Might we be related? I'd be interested to find out - if you're willing, perhaps we could exchange family tree information and perhaps trace our histories a little bit further... thanks! Amber Wigle

Hello John,
I just recently joined the American Indian Society of Washington, DC.
I've seen your posts over at Tuscaroras.com from time to time.
It's good that there are others in my neck of the woods who've gotten together to do what you have done here.
If you haven't done so, take a look at my website.
I am a descendant of the Tuscaroras who ventured northward but didn't quite make the trip.
Personally I believe that there are a lot of people descended from this group.
The ancestral fires within me have never been extinguished. They remained hidden until now. I hope that I can cause the ancestral fires of others in my family to burn brighter as well.
Oneh.

Thanks for the page and all the information. I teach US history at the local high school and a course in American Indian history. I spend a lot of time on the Tuscarora because they live around here and many of the students find arrowheads etc in their fields. My great, great grandmother was an Indian, but have not been able to locate information on her tribe. She lived around the Pamlico River near Aurora, NC 1830-1865 or so. She could be Tuscaroa or Pamlico Indian, but not sure. Any suggestions where I can search or get more information? I have a pic of her and know she was real. plus the stories of her and the familiy have been great. Thanks,James E. White, III "Jim"

Hi, Great page. I was wondering if you would know about the tribesthat were in the Pasadena area. Pasadena is a Native American wordfor place between two hill. At least that is what the article in the Baltimore Sun said. There is about 700 acres of land that is up for sale and I would like to find out if any Native American tribes would have the "rights" to it. Please e-mail me when you can. Hi John, I'm a white guy looking for powwows in Maryland, which is how I found your site.Is it accurate that the Magothy, Severn, South, West and Rhoderivers were middle ground between tribes to the north and south?I have heard several times that this was why they have Englishinstead of Indian names. I grew up on the Severn.Did Maryland have someone like Rhode Island's Roger Williams? If so, I have never heard of him/her.Many more questions, but I'll spare you. Thanks for the site.jeff lecksell

Yes long time no talk. I would be happy to show you the
ropes on HTML and Web Pages. Just let me know when is a good day, I
am closer to your home from work then Baltimore. So it would be best for
me if I could stop by after work. I would be happy to put your business
card on my page too. How are things on the MD Commission on Indian Affairs?
The BAIC will begin the powwow committee soon for the August powwow. I
would like for you to come join us to help plan this year's powwow. Call
me at work or home.

I am looking for any records on my great great great great
grandmother, Sandy Cree. I have reason to believe she was a tuscarora
indian. Her husband, George Purtee fought with Layfayette. Do you
have any suggestions?
Carol Zemke <carolsue@execpc.com>
Greenfield, WI USA - Saturday, February 01, 1997 at 09:24:17 (EST)
Carol-
I am guessing at the time frame, say around in the mid 1700's, for
when she was alive. Layfayette, I am assuming also was from the revolutionary
war period. If my assumptions are correct, try checking with the Nat'l
Archives in Washington, DC (and Adelphi, MD) to see if they have records
on soldiers from that period. You could confirm George Purtee commander's
name, and the spousal benefits/pension information may also
be helpful. This time period is when our people were traveling North
from present day North Carolina, so much has been lost during that
period of time, but can be recovered with enough effort. Good luck
and feel free to email me directly at
